Tanya McCahon NDMDI, Grad. Dip Medical Sonography

Director / Sonographer

Tanya is a former ballet dancer who had to end her career due to a significant injury. During her rehabilitation, she developed a deep appreciation for the human body’s intricate mechanics, and her passion for musculoskeletal anatomy grew.

Recognizing the importance of accurate diagnoses and treatment in the field of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries, Tanya became a passionate MSK sonographer and patient advocate.

Tanya initially completed her Radiography training in Christchurch in1998, followed closely by her ultrasound training in Tasmania, (through University of South Australia) in 2002. Since then, Tanya has worked extensively as a sonographer throughout Australia and New Zealand in both the public and private sectors, including clinical tutor roles.

Tanya has been privileged to work alongside many esteemed MSK Radiologists including Dr Kevin Gilbert here in Hamilton, Dr Bill Breidahl in Perth, Sonologist Dr Wes Cormick in Canberra and many specialist sonographers including Rex De Ryke and Shaun O’Reagan.

As an MSK sonographer, Tanya combines her expertise in anatomy and her understanding of movement to help patients and healthcare professionals identify and evaluate various MSK issues. She uses ultrasound to capture static and real-time images of the musculoskeletal structures, providing valuable insights into any injuries or abnormalities detected.

Tanya is a member of the Australasian Sonographers Association, Sports Medicine New Zealand, MSK Australia and is registered with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board of New Zealand.
